Andrew Bjerken

Drew BjerkenAndrew Bjerken is an Associate Vice President in the Division of Information Technology and NIU's Chief Information Security Officer, responsible for designing and directing NIU’s information security program. Drew works with campus partners to ensure NIU operations are in compliance with regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Payment Card Industry standards, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and Criminal Justice Information Services. He has initiated development of standard processes for incident response, third party vendor risk assessment, and investigations.

In his role as NIU’s Chief Privacy Officer, Drew ensures that student, faculty, and staff privacy are protected in NIU operations.

Drew came to NIU from the corporate world having held roles with two Fortune 500 companies. Most recently he was the Americas Area Information Security Officer for RB, a consumer goods company, and Director of Advanced Threat Management for ADP, a payroll company. Drew is a veteran of the Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom conflicts, serving in the United States Air Force.

He has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Minnesota State University and a Master’s degree in Forensic Science from the National University.
