Fred Williams

Fred Williams is the Senior Director of IT Infrastructure and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). He oversees all aspects of NIU's wired and wireless data network, voice, server, storage and infrastructure applications services at NIU.

Fred graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, with a B.S. in mathematics. He came to NIU as a graduate student in math education. He was a math instructor at Kishwaukee Community College, and has had a 15-year professional IT career at NIU that has spanned technology support in Housing & Dining; desktop and printer support; application support, including primary support for Blackboard Learn; and infrastructure architecture, including NIU's converged virtual structure. Before becoming senior director, Fred managed the Infrastructure Services Support department responsible for enterprise resources in NIU's data centers.

Fred reports to NIU's Chief Information Officer, Matt Parks. He is a member of the DoIT Green Team that implements and promotes environmental and fiscal sustainability practices. His primary goal is to continually improve the NIU customer interaction with IT to the same level as the best consumer online experiences.
