Upon the recommendation of Northern Illinois University (NIU) legal counsel and the Division of Information Technology, NIU websites must follow the web accessibility standards approved by Governor George Ryan and published by the Illinois Technology Office on February 14, 2002.
See Illinois Web Accessibility Standards for the complete standard and ways to achieve it.
The university template is fully compliant and all web authors are encouraged to use it. Get more information on the university template at the Web Communications Team site.
NIU web authors should apply the web accessibility standards whenever new information is uploaded. Every effort should be made to review old information for accessiblity. For each new web site, the concept of universal design should be applied, meaning websites are designed for people of all abilities using any kind of device.
