Ad Hoc Kaltura Lecture Capture Quick Guide

These instructions describe the steps for configuring and conducting an ad hoc lecture capture recording using Kaltura Classroom.

As long as there is no conflicting scheduled Kaltura Lecture Capture session, you can begin an ad hoc recording session at any time using Kaltura Classroom. *Note that ad hoc sessions create recordings that are stored in your My Media Library, and cannot be live streamed.

To conduct an ad hoc lecture capture session, do the following:

  1. Arrive early to the classroom, be sure the classroom PC is on and logged in.
  2. Use the desktop Kaltura Classroom icon to launch/open Kaltura Classroom
  3. Do not modify the input configuration in the Kaltura Classroom interface. If you believe there is a scheduling or configuration problem, call the support phone number provided at the PC station.
  4. Click the Calendar icon to check the recording schedule in the left menu to ensure there is no conflicting scheduled session.
  5. When ready, click the Start Recording button, the recording timer will countdown from 5 and the inputs will begin recording.
  6. To end the session, click on the Kaltura icon on the taskbar to restore the interface and press the stop button.
  7. Carefully complete the recording information screen, including a title, your NIU user ID, an optional description and tags. Entering your user ID properly will ensure that the video is uploaded to your Kaltura My Media library.
  8. Click Save to begin the upload and processing.
  9. At the completion of the class, logout of the PC, but do not power the computer down. Your recording will be processed and stored in your My Media library.
