Signing In (using the Zoom App)
- Go to niu-edu.zoom.us or the App
- Click Sign In and pick Sign in with SSO if prompted
- In the "Your Company Domain" field, enter https://niu-edu so that the domain listed in the sign in box is https://niu-edu.zoom.us
- enter your AID (ie: a123456@mail.niu.edu) and password when prompted and submit)
NOTE: If you've previously used Zoom with a personal account, you'll need to first sign-out of the Zoom app on your computer before you attempt to sign-in with your NIU account.
Download the Zoom App & the (optional) Zoom Plugin for Microsoft Outlook
NOTE: If you don’t, it will download automatically the first time you join or host a meeting
NOTE: The Settings function is the ‘gear’ in the top right corner of the main screen
Configure Calendar and Contacts Integration (Online & the App)
- Click on Profile
- Click the Configure Calendar and Contacts Service button
- Pick 1 of the 3 options. NIU > Office 365
- Click Next
- Authorize – Pick your account (teacher or student are the 2 options)
- Click Accept
- Follow the same process in the Zoom App – you will find the option on the right side, click Add a Calendar.
Set Audio and Video Default Settings in the App
- Click on: Settings > Audio > Mute microphone when joining
- Click on: Settings > Video > Turn off my video when joining
NOTE: The space bar is used to toggle on/off mute
Record the meeting to your computer (local) in the App
- Click on: Settings > Recordings – toggle it on
NOTE: You can record to File Storage Services (ex. One Drive) and Video Streaming Services (ex. YouTube)
Create Breakout Rooms (up to 50 rooms) in the App
- Click on: Settings > In Meeting (Advanced) > Breakout Rooms > Allow the host to assign participants to breakout rooms when scheduling > Save
Change Background
- Click on: Settings > Virtual Background > Upload personal photos/videos or click on default pics
NOTE: When you schedule meetings, an extra checkbox will appear under ‘Meeting Options’ labeled ‘Breakout Room pre-assigned.’
